Graduate School Timeline

During junior year:
  1. Think about what you might want to do in graduate school.
  2. Get involved in a research project.
  3. If possible, give a presentation on your research at a conference.

During the summer between your junior and senior year:

  1. Narrow your graduate school search, and start to determine who in those schools might be the faculty member you would like as your major advisor.
  2. Write inquiry letters to potential major advisors.
  3. Continue with undergraduate research.

During the autumn semester of your senior year:

  1. If necessary, repeat GRE.
  2. Submit NSF PreDoctoral Fellowship application.
  3. Continue corresponding with potential major advisors.
  4. Continue with undergraduate research or start writing a senior thesis.
  5. Submit Graduate School Applications.

During your senior spring semester:

  1. Finish your senior thesis.
  2. Present your results at a conference.
  3. Visit potential graduate schools.
  4. Accept your favorite offer!
