DBS Faculty, Staff and Students Wield Hammers for Habitat for Humanity

On July 17, 2009 members of the DBS community joined with scientists from the Montana State Crime lab to build a house with Habitat for Humanity.

Mike Minnick Awarded NIH R21 Grant

Dr. Mike Minnick recently received an NIH R21 grant entitled  "Role of Coxiella burnetii group I introns in growth modulation".  This grant provides $389,125 for this research over the next several years.  

 
 
 
         
Hauer, Rosenzweig, and Six featured in Montanan article

Ric Hauer, Frank Rosenzweig, and Diana Six feature prominently in the latest edition of the Montanan. The article highlights new research funding for projects at UM, and professors in Biology and in Forestry have been very successful getting it.

 
 
 
         
NSF predoctoral fellowship, Erin McCullough

OBE graduate student Erin McCullough awarded both an NSF predoctoral fellowship and a National Academy of Sciences Ford Foundation Diversity Fellowship. Erin studies flight behavior and flight performance in giant rhinoceros beetles. Large males produce disproportionately long horns, small males produce short horns, and females produce no horns, so rhinoceros beetles are an excellent opportunity for studying the functional costs of elaborate sexually, selected traits.

 
 
 
         
P.E.O. award to Jenny Gremer

P.E.O. is a philanthropic and educational organization that supports women in higher education. The award is a competitive, national, merit-based scholarship for women that are within two-years of completing their PhDs or postdocs.
