Michaelis-Menten Kinetics
- The velocity of a reaction with Michaelis-Menten kinetics depends on the substrate concentration
as follows:
- At low substrate concentrations, the curve is a steep line, indicating that the rate is strongly
dependent on substrate concentration
- At high substrate concentrations, the enzyme becomes saturated, so that increasing the concentration
of the substrate has little effect on the velocity
- In between, when the substration concentration [S] is equal to Km, then the velocity is
exactly equal to one-half of Vmax
