The Michaelis-Menten Equation
- The Michaelis-Menten (MM) equation is defined as:
- In this equation, there are two new terms, Vmax and Km
- Vmax is the maximum velocity of the reaction. This occurs under saturation conditions
and is equal to the total amount of enzyme times the conversion rate constant k2
- The other term, Km, is called the Michaelis constant. It is defined in terms
of the rate constants of the two-step reaction:
