Lyase Reaction
- A lyase is an enzyme that breaks apart a substrate, resulting in the production of double-bonds
- Above is a decarboxylation reaction, catalyzed by pyruvate decarboxylase, that
produces CO2 and acetaldehyde from pyruvate
- A Lyase is also sometimes referred to as a synthase
