- Chaperones are molecules that assist in protein folding. They are especially important for certain
kinds of large proteins that take longer to fold and may form inappropriately
- Chaperones include the heat shock proteins such as HSP-60 and HSP-70 which are synthesized
- These are among the oldest kinds of proteins. We'll look at the structure of GroEl, which is one of
the most studied chaperones
